On August 2, 2003 Young Friends of Save Venice will gather in the Hamptons at The Salt Queen Foundation for the Salt of the Earth Backgammon Tournament. SALVATORE FERRAGAMO is the sponsor for the evening. Dewar's Finest Scotch Whiskies is donating the evening's cocktails and Bamboo is donating the food.

Co-Chairs of the event are Olivia Chantecaille, John Leopoldo Fiorilla, Lara Kairouz and milanese artist Bettina Werner, Founder of The Salt Queen Foundation.

Benefit Committee members include: Daniel Benedict, Joe del Vecchio, Adelina Wong Ettelson, Dana Gers, Florencia Masri, Lisa Montana-Bardwil, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Jodi della Femina Kim, Tinsley Mortimer, Andrew Saffir and Deborah Tauber.

The preliminary rounds of The Salt of the Earth Backgammon Tournament will be played on the Salt Sculpture-Table in an historic potato barn. Participants will be competing for a Bettina Werner original Salt Crystal Backgammon-Sculpture Board worth $5000. The final game will be played on a master work; a gigantic salt sculpture backgammon board with huge dice. The runner-up will receive a leather-bound portable backgammon set, courtesy of Salvatore Ferragamo.

Proceeds from this event will go towards the restoration of the façade of the Scuola Grande di San Marco Venice, Italy
